Local people are invited to give their views on the exciting improvements planned to begin in Erith in 2019, following a successful bid by the Council for a further £1.6m from the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund,
Two consultation events will be held on 25 April, 3pm – 8pm and 27 April, 10am – 2pm at 68 Pier Road, the end unit on the ground floor of Parkspring Court.
The funding will see the Riverside Gardens rejuvenated and refurbished based on designs developed in partnership with local residents and community organisations.
Units 66 and 68 Pier Road, that have stood empty for some years, will be brought into use. Early plans for them include a family friendly café, a professional training kitchen for hire by local food businesses and cooking sessions for local families. The Council is also considering how to secure the long-term future of 70 Pier Road.
Cllr Louie French, Bexley’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Growth said:
“The support of the local community is essential to help Erith become a vibrant riverside town again. I’d urge as many people as possible to come along to these events and help us shape Erith’s future.
These events provide an opportunity for the community to tell us how they think the Riverside Gardens, units 66 and 68 Pier Road and the seating area at the entrance to the pier, could be transformed.
There will also be a chance to hear about other ways to get involved in various projects across the town. Groundwork, whom the Council has commissioned to run the community design process for the Riverside Gardens, and GCDA who will be working in partnership with the council to deliver the project from 68 Pier Road will also be available to answer any questions.
The improvements will build on previous regeneration work funded by the Council and the Mayor via their partnership project, the ‘Greater Erith Programme’. This includes the upgraded public areas at Erith Station and the soon to be renovated public space at the entrance to Erith Pier, as well as the renovation of the Carnegie Library building.
